Surroundings

The location of Relais Le Fornacelle is the perfect balance between the tranquility of the Tuscan countryside and the cultural vibrancy of one of Italy’s most exclusive areas.

Visit to the WWF Oasis

The Padule di Bolgheri Wildlife Refuge “Marchese Mario Incisa della Rocchetta” is an affiliated oasis consisting of cultivated and uncultivated land, wet meadows, flooded ash woods, ponds covering approximately 150 hectares, coastal tombolos (ridge of sand, gravel, or sediment created by waves transporting sand) and sandy beaches. The Oasis is located in the municipality of Castagneto Carducci (LI), covering 513 hectares, and is a splendid example of the original environment of the upper Maremma. Bolgheri was the first private protected area in Italy; since 1959, on the initiative of Marquis Mario Incisa della Rocchetta, owner of the area, it has been a valuable wildlife refuge for many animal species.

The beaches

Marina di Castagneto has been awarded the Blue Flag for environmental sustainability, services, accessibility, and water quality for 31 years now.

Center of Marina
It is the beating heart of the Castagneto coastline, with its lively beach resorts, beach bars, restaurants, and enchanting landscape.

Pianetti
It is located in the southern part of Marina di Castagneto. If you are looking for a quiet place with few people and where time seems to have gone back, stop here. Kilometers of beach, precious silence, and transparent water.

Cala violina
If you want to get away from the Relais for a while (about 50 km), choose the enchanting Cala Violina beach in the Scarlino nature reserve: white sand and crystal-clear water. Access is only possible by sea or by a 10-minute bike ride or 30-minute walk through the Mediterranean scrub. Reservations are required from June to September.
